How a First-Time Bidder Landed $13K Profit from a $0 Start
By Sean & Doug Reitmeyer — GCExperts.
Every contractor remembers their first federal award. For this one, it came from following the process exactly as taught.
After watching the training, he found a solicitation for rock delivery, connected two local suppliers, put together a quote, attached photos, and submitted it just before the deadline. Days later, the government called back: he was the lowest bidder. The job returned roughly $13,000 in profit on an $89,000 contract, for a few hours of management work.
None of it was complicated. The pattern is to find the opportunity, make the calls, fill out the form, attach the pictures, and send it in. Two practical habits made the difference. First, speed: the opportunity was found late in the window and answered immediately. Second, local connection: using maps to locate nearby suppliers and haulers, exactly as the training shows.
The larger change was in mindset. The process went from intimidating to obvious once it was treated as a fill-in-the-blank form rather than a maze. The course paid for itself on that single deal, and each additional win becomes faster than the last.
The first contract is the hardest. After that, momentum does the work.
